Met Office issues snow warning for East Lancashire
snow road
The Met Office has now issued a yellow warning of snow with rain, sleet or snow likely to affect parts of east Lancashire. This is for between 11am today and 7pm this evening. The heaviest snow will affect higher ground.
The Highways Agency says:
Drivers, including commuters heading home this evening, should check weather and traffic conditions before setting out.
The Highways Agency will continue to monitor conditions and respond accordingly by continuiing to patrol and treat the network with salt and by deploying extra resources to the region’s motorways and major A roads if necessary.
Drivers are being urged to drive to conditions – by slowing down, lighting up and by leaving extra room for braking and avoiding sudden driving movements.
Live information is available at www.highways.gov.uk or by ringing (if they can do safely and legally) the Highways Agency’s Information Line on 0300 123 5000.
If they are travelling drivers should listen out for travel alerts and heed any warnings on the Highways Agency’s electronic signs.
