MU cake for caravans proves to be a big hit in Colne
READY, STEADY BAKE: Matt wilkins at the great british bake off event (s)
PARISHIONERS from five Colne churches had a fabulous time putting their baking skills to the test.
Approximately 90 people, from St Bartholomew’s Church, St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Holy Trinity Church, Christ Church, and St Mary’s Church, turned out to the “The Great Branch Bake Off” at Colne Parish Church, to raise money for the Mothers’ Union Charity’s Caravan Fund.
£350 has been donated to the charity, which helps families in difficulty enjoy a holiday experience on the Lancashire Coast, at Morecambe.
There were 68 entrants in total, but some keen bakers decided to enter more than one of the eight categories. There was also a special demonstration from Emma-Jayne Meachin, of Pashmina Cakes, a timed icing session, inspired by The Generation Game, a bring-and-buy book stall, and a supper, where all attendees could try each other’s sweet and savoury culinary delights.
The organiser and branch leader of St Bartholomew’s Church, Karen Hawthorne, said: “It started as a small idea, and by the time we finished it ended up being a massive event.
“It really took off, and people had a really good night. It went better than I could have imagined.
“The judges were overcome with the standard.”
