Neighbours petition for man’s eviction
A MAN arrested for breach of the peace was the subject of a neighbours’ petition to get him out of the Colne street where he had been living, a court heard.
Shaun Spencer had been evicted from one house on Harrison Drive by Housing Pendle, moved into another and residents were said to want him out.
Spencer (32) swore and refused to leave when police turned up to find him putting clothing in a wheelie bin, Pennine magistrates were told.
The defendant admitted breaching the peace on Sunday and was bound over in the sum of £100 for six months.
Mrs Alex Mann (prosecuting) said Spencer had been living with his great aunt, had been evicted because of some issue about his behaviour and then moved into his grandfather’s home. It was suggested he had been causing a problem and apparently residents were petitioning to get him evicted.
Police were called to Harrison Drive at about 9-30pm, the situation seemed to be getting heated and Spencer was putting clothing in a bin. He was told to leave as his grandfather didn’t want him there any more. He started swearing and refused to go.
Mrs Mann continued: “Most of the neighbours were being caused distress. A few of them spoke to the police. This was not the first time. He had had several warnings in the last week. He was removed.”
Spencer, who was not legally represented, told the court: “I feel I am getting a little bit picked on by a couple of police officers.”
