JAILED: Siahosh Khan

JAILED: Siahosh Khan

A NELSON man who was involved in a drugs supply chain between the town and Bradford has been jailed for six years.

Siahosh Khan (33), of Bishop Street, was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply class A drugs – heroin.

Two co-accused, Hamid Shah (21), of Newlands Place, Bradford and Asif Akhtar (21), of Newlands Place, Bradford, were sentenced to six years two months and two years respectively.

Shah and Khan were arrested on December 1st after they were caught dealing heroin in Victoria Park, Nelson. Officers then discovered around a quarter of a kilo of the drug with an estimated street value of £15,000, hidden in Shah’s car.

Akhtar was arrested after his fingerprints were found on the packaging. Officers then discovered a substantial amount of drugs packaging at his address in Bradford.

Speaking after sentencing DS Martin Kennedy from Pennine Division’s Targeted Crime Unit said: “They brought a large amount of heroin into Lancashire with the intention of selling it on to flood the streets of Nelson. They had no regard for the children who were playing nearby and showed a blatant disrespect for the local community.

“This should send out a warning to people who think they can bring drugs into Lancashire that they will be targeted and sent to prison.

“We know the devastating impact drugs can have on our communities and we will continue to do everything we can to remove them and those who peddle them from our streets.”

Anyone with information or concerns about drugs in their community can contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
