A NELSON production worker’s nine-year-old Norwegian Elkhound called Chris proved every dog does have its day after walking away with a top prize at Crufts!

Chris was one of more than 25,000 dogs at Birmingham’s NEC, presented by the Kennel Club, which is celebrating 140 years of promoting healthy, happy dogs, and claimed the prestigious Best of Breed award last weekend.

Owner Brian Middleton fought off competition from a number of other dogs to scoop the coveted prize, going on to finish fourth in the Best in Group voting for the Hound category.

And 57-year-old Mr Middleton, of Edge End Lane, was left beaming with pride at his and Chris’s performance at the world-famous Crufts in the West Midlands.

“It just means everything to receive Best of Breed – it’s what you aim for all year,” he said. “We have been here five times and he has picked up Best of Breed five times.

“Chris’s temperament is very good. There is no airs and graces with him. What you see is what you get from him. He is very laid back.

“Everyone knows about Crufts. In theory, it is no different from any other competition but in reality it is just that bit more special. The atmosphere is great and it’s the pinnacle for many people.”
