COUNCILLOR David Whipp, who leads on community safety for Pendle Council and is the chairman of Pendle’s Community Safety Partnership, has spoken after the major drugs raid in Nelson and Brierfield yesterday.

Coun. Whipp said:“All law abiding residents in Pendle will welcome action to tackle drugs related crime.

“There’s been concerted action over the years to crack down on unlawful activity which puts people in Pendle and beyond at risk. This week’s arrests are all part of wide ranging activity to tackle the problems of illegal drugs and associated crime.

“Our work as a partnership includes successful drugs treatment programmes and activities to divert young people away from getting involved in drug dealing and drug taking.

“We support the police in their enforcement action. Thanks to working in partnership, we’ve seen a fall in crime in Pendle over the years. These arrests will contribute to further falls in crime in Pendle in the future.”
