Petrol thief awaiting sentence
A TEENAGER who went on a “spree” stealing petrol and diesel to the tune of about £6,000 from East Lancashire garages is awaiting sentence.
Pennine magistrates heard how Patrick Heaney struck in Burnley, Nelson and Rossendale, taking fuel worth about £130 each time.
Heaney (18), of Halifax Road, Brierfield, admitted 10 theft allegations between last September and December and asked for 40 offences to be considered. He is due in court again today after being bailed for a pre- sentence report. He could end up being committed to the higher court for sentence.
Mrs Alex Mann (prosecuting) said the defendant had been on a “bit of a spree.” He was not a regular offender, was not recognised and after he got away with it the first time, carried on.
The prosecutor said Heaney was putting fuel into containers in the back of a vehicle through an open window or door. He had one previous conviction.
