Queen Visits Turf Moor: Public Viewing Areas
THE Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will visit Turf Moor on Wednesday, May 16, as part of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
The Queen and The Duke will attend lunch, hosted by Chairman Barry Kilby in the Jimmy McIlroy Stand at Turf Moor.
The public is invited to share in this occasion and witness the Royal couple, with viewing galleries on both the North Stand car park and along Harry Potts Way.
To ensure the visit is a highlight of her visit to Lancashire, the club is also opening the 8,000 all-seater James Hargreaves stand to allow the general public and invited schoolchildren to watch performances from a number of Primary and Secondary schools from across East Lancashire during the visit.
The children have created a range of musical and choral performances, in addition to dances, and the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh will be invited out onto the balcony very briefly after lunch.
Following lunch, the Queen will unveil a plaque commemorating her visit and then sign the visitors’ book beneath a framed Burnley shirt from the 1914 FA Cup Final at Crystal Palace.
The shirt features the Royal crest commemorating the occasion of The Queen’s grandfather, King George V, becoming the first reigning monarch to present the FA Cup following the Clarets’ 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
