Taxis forced off road after spot checks
Breaking News
A SPOT check on taxis in Nelson resulted in more than half the cabs checked being taken off the road.
A total of 18 vehicles were checked by Pendle Council, the police and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) on the evening of Friday, May 11th.
Of the vehicles tested, 11 had to be taken off the road due to faults.
The majority had the faults fixed the same evening or the next day and were allowed back on the road.
Coun.Pauline McCormick, chairman of the Taxi Licensing Committee, said: “The number of taxis failing the test was a disappointment compared to the last one carried out in Colne.
“All 11 vehicles will now have to undergo an extra taxi test per year so the condition of the vehicle can be monitored.”
The joint operations will continue on evenings throughout the year.
Coun. McCormick added: “I expect to see an improvement on the next spot check.
“In the meantime, if you want to report a taxi that you think may have defects, please get in touch with our taxi licensing team who will look into it.
“You might also want to tell us about a good service you’ve had from a Pendle taxi firm.”
