Top award for Colne engineer

A TOP award has been presented to a Colne engineer for his outstanding technical skills.
Matthew Steer (22) scooped the coveted “Progress Shield”, after impressing his employer, global leader Fort Vale Engineering.
It marks the end of a four-year apprenticeship with the firm, which is based in Calder Vale Park, Simonstone. Matthew will now continue his career with the Queen’s award-winning company, within the tool room.
He said: “I really wasn’t expecting to win at all. It’s a great feeling to know that all my hard work has paid off and I’ve ended my apprenticeship on a real high.
“I have enjoyed working as part of a firm that values your talents. The team have been nothing but supportive, we all have plenty of help along the way and it is a great environment to work in.
“It has been an amazing experience and I look forward to the future.”
And Alan Emerton, apprentice training manager at Fort Vale said: “Matthew is a credit to Fort Vale. He is never late, never complains and always works hard.
“Over the past two years he has really stepped up to the plate and is fully deserving of the Progress Shield.”
Fort Vale Engineering’s Modern Apprenticeship Programme is delivered in partnership with Training 2000. The company has taken on apprentices every year for the last 36 years and is fully committed to their training and development.
