FAMILIAR Pendle faces have shared their reasons for taking part in this year’s Asda Foundation Pennine Lancashire 10K Run.

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson, Coun. Paul White, and Ryan Taylor, general manager at The Alma Inn, in Emmott Lane, Laneshaw Bridge, will be among the thousands flocking to the Burnley event on June 2nd.

They are all hopeful to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice, and are ready to start their training in the coming months.

Coun. White aims to go running in Laneshaw Bridge and Colne, as well as start going to the gym more, while Mr Taylor, from Barrowford, will keep increasing his fitness levels through football, and running in the area.

Coun. White, who said he is determined to beat Mr Taylor and Mr Stephenson to the finishing line, said: “I want to do it quite competitively when I get going.

“People should get involved mainly for the charity aspect.

“Pendleside Hospice needs a huge amount of money to keep going, and it is used by so many local people in Colne, Burnley, Pendle and other places.”

Mr Taylor, who wanted to take on the challenge after successfully completing Cancer Research UK’s Dryathlon in January, said: “Pendleside Hospice do a great job.

“I am slightly apprehensive at the moment, but it is nice to know that Paul and Andrew are doing it.

“It is good they have chosen Burnley again. Hopefully if it is a success, they will do it again.”

And Mr Stephenson added: “I ran the last Pennine Lancashire 10K back in 2010 and that was for Pendleside Hospice.

“I raised over £1,000 for the charity, and that is something that I hope to achieve again, and hopefully surpass.

“I think the hospice is a fantastic charity, and I hope to see many more people wearing the yellow T-shirts during the race.”

The official route for the 10km course has officially been unveiled, and it is expected that more than £100,000 will be raised for local charities.

The race will start from Burnley Mechanics before heading up through Thompson Park, Brunshaw and the Brun Valley Forest Park. Runners will head down past the golf course and Towneley Hall and back through the town centre to the finish line at Burnley Mechanics.
