Waste centre closes on Monday

AS the household waste recycling centre in Colne shuts down from Monday, Pendle Council has sent out a timely reminder to people about its own bulky waste collection service.

Large items such as fridges, cookers and televisions will be collected and taken awy for disposal free of charge.

The council also takes furniture including three piece suites.

To book a collection, just call 661743 or fill in an online form at www.pendle.gov.uk/forms.

Collections normally take place within seven working days.

DIY waste, such as bathroom suites, bricks and timber, is also collected for a small charge.

Coun. James Starkie, who represents waste in Pendle, said: “This weekend the household waste recycling centre in Colne will close.

“This means that when residents have large household items to dispose of, they can use either Barnoldswick’s or Burnley’s household waste recycling centres.

“While this means that everyone in Pendle lives within seven miles of a household waste recycling centre, there may be people who can’t transport their items. And for these people, there is the option of our free bulky household waste collection service.

“This isn’t a new service we’re offering and it won’t replace Colne recycling centre, but will be of use to some people.

“And, of course, you could also try giving some unwanted household items to charity. Some organisations will even come and collect furniture and working electrical appliances from your home.”

For more information about bulky household waste collections in Pendle, call 661743 or visit www.pendle.gov.uk.
