Youth leader cleared of rapes but convicted of indecent assaults

A FORMER parish councillor and youth leader has been cleared of eight charges of rape - but convicted of a string of indecent assaults.

John Duffy (50), of Skipton Road, Colne, was acquitted of seven charges at Burnley Crown Court by a jury on the direction of Judge Andrew Woolman. He was cleared of an eighth charge count of rape by the jury.

He was found guilty of 20 counts of indecent assault and one count of indecency with a child by the jury and was remanded in custody to await sentence.
