IN response to a growing demand for Scouting in Pendle, a new Scout Group has been established at St John’s Church, Nelson.

It is catering for young people between the ages of six and 10, making them members of Beavers or Cubs.

Three new leaders - Lisa Thompson, Neil Dawson and Graham Williams - were invested by Howard Mitchell, District Commissioner, at the church’s family service.

Mr Mitchell said: “We provide fun and friendship, challenge and everyday adventure to 400,000 young people in the UK. This is the reason why people join Scouting and stay.

“We are inclusive, confident about what we do and trusted by nearly a million parents every week. I am very pleased to appoint three very enthusiastic and dedicated leaders to run the new group.

“They have spent the last three months training and planning and they are bursting with lots of ideas and activities to ensure that our young people enjoy everything that Scouting has to offer. Scouting in Pendle is growing, but we need more adult volunteers to meet the demand.”

The 18th Pendle St John’s and St Philip’s meet on Tuesdays. The demand for places is likely to be high but inquiries can be made at www.pendlescouts.org.uk

Adult volunteers can also inquire on the website.
