Open day boost for Colne WEA
MOVES to revive the flagging fortunes of the Colne branch of the Workers' Educational Association received a welcome boost at an open day.
The event at Colne Library featured a variety of talks on the area and a quiz and long-standing secretary Norma Kendall said afterwards that around 10 people had expressed an interest in finding out more about what the WEA had to offer.
Wycoller Country Park ranger Peter Short gave a detailed talk about the wide range of activities which go on there, WEA member Andrea Smith made a small presentation entitled "Curiosities of our Area" and after lunch, Mike Clarke of Barnoldswick gave a talk on traditional canal boat artwork.
Mrs Kendall said: "We were very encouraged by the numbers of people who turned up. They asked so many questions that we had to cancel a planned practical session.
"Our classes are a social occasion where people learn not only from the tutor, but from each other as well as people often bring considerable experience of a subject with them."
Anyone wanting to know more about the WEA is asked to call Mrs Kendall on 814850 or Andrea Smith on 603553.
