Scott's creation is an e-card first

AN artistic creation by a Pendle schoolboy has been chosen as the official picture for a charity's first-ever Christmas e-card.

Park High School pupil Scott Eley (11), who lives with the genetic skin condition epidermolysis bullosa (EB), has designed the card for the EB charity DebRA.

Now he is hoping that his Christmas card will be e-mailed all over the world to raise vital funds for the charity that has helped him throughout his life.

Scott said: "I hope people like my card design. I worked really hard on it and I would be really proud if it helped to raise money for DebRA and spread the word about EB."

Scott, who lives in Earby with his mum Elaine, dad Frank and brother Lewis, has recessive dystrophic EB, meaning that his skin is extremely delicate and scars when it heals.

"I have to have my dressings changed everyday, which is really painful, and I have extra help at school.

"DebRA has supported me and my family so I hope that my Christmas e-card will help support DebRA," said Scott.

EB is a painful genetic condition, the effects of which were highlighted in the Channel 4 documentary "The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off".

DebRA is encouraging people to save paper and e-mail the specially-designed cards to their friends and family, hoping that the money saved on cards and postage could then be donated to DebRA instead. Despite having skin that blisters and tears at the slightest friction, Scott lives a full and active life, enjoying playing snooker and chess as well as being a huge fan of Burnley-born superbike champion Neil Hodgson.

His mum Elaine said: "Scott saw the compeition to design the new Christmas e-card in the DebRA newsletter and he just sat down straight away and drew the card. We had no idea he was doing it or that it would ever be chosen.

"I always send the paper cards out to a lot of people but I've also sent on the e-card to some people this year. It's easy to send and I just think it's a really good idea. It is the first time that DebRA has created a Christmas e-card and the electronic cards have already had a great response.
