Sealed Know battle re-enactment at Barnoldswick Gala

PITCH battles will take on a whole new meaning at Barnoldswick's Victory Park in September.

Cannon fire, musketry and living history will enthral crowds at Barnoldswick's Gala Weekend on September 11th and 12th, with hundreds of Sealed Knot re-enactment specialists set to descend on the town for the event.

Battling to the beat of the drum, participants will fight two 90-minute pitched battles at Victory Park with cannons, musketeers and pike men replacing footballers, cricketers and rugby players for the weekend.

And spectators will experience a slice of 17th Century history in a soldier's encampment with gunpowder making, authentic cooking fires and armourers.

The event will also feature a live music marquee with top bands playing during the weekend.

Other activities include a tug of war competition, a park procession with "person power" carnival carts, which can be pushed, pulled or pedalled by a single person, charity stalls, Marshall Waddington fun fair, duck race and much more.

The event is organised by Barnoldswick Town Council and supported by Pendle Council. It is hoped the weekend will mark the revival of the town's famous gala which attracted thousands of people in its heyday.

To enter the tug of war competition, register your carnival cart or to run a charity stall contact David Whipp on 666777 or email david.whipp@dsl.pipex.com
