Top marks for Barnoldswick CE School in inspection
AS a Church of England School, Barnoldswick CE School - known locally as "Church School" - receives a Diocesan inspection as well as the Ofsted one.
Inspectors recently visited the school to assess its distinctiveness and effectiveness as a church school and assessed it as "good with some outstanding features" and that children receive a rich, broad, balanced and exciting curriculum.
Inspectors found the Christian ethos at the heart of the school ensures all pupils are nurtured and highly valued; pupils show outstanding behaviour and excellent relationships.
The school places great emphasis on valuing each individual and all pupils feel valued and special and gain the skills and confidence to flourish.
As a church school, the inspectors assess the impact of collective worship on the school community and found this to be good, occupying a place of central importance in school life.
Inspectors found children speak enthusiastically about the opportunities they have for sharing in collective worship in class and key stage. The inspectors have suggested ways in which the foundation governors (members of the governing body appointed by the church) can develop their involvement with the school to monitor and evaluate collective worship more fully.
The fourth aspect of school life considered by the inspectors is the leadership and management of the school which is good; the head teacher and vicar both articulate a clear vision for the school and all stakeholders affirm this a good school which is continually striving for further improvement.
The Vicar, the Rev. John Lancaster, who has been associated with the school for 23 years, said: "I am delighted with both the Ofsted report and this inspection report on Church School.
"It reflects the very special nature of Church School and the dedication and commitment of everyone associated with the school to provide a happy, secure environment in which our children can flourish, acquiring knowledge, skills and confidence for life."
