Triumphant return for Colne's Olympic hero - SLIDESHOW & VIDEO

CROWDS lined the streets of Colne yesterday to welcome the town's Olympic hero - cyclist Steven Burke - back home!

Some 2,000 turned out to greet the 20-year-old former Park High School pupil who raced to a bronze medal in the individual cycling pursuit in Beijing.

He was greeted at Colne Railway Station by Pendle Council's cycling officer Patricia Wilson before being whisked off in an open-top car for a tour of his home town with local cyclists, family and friends behind.

At Colne Town Hall he was met by Pendle Mayor Coun Shelagh Derwent, council leader Coun John David, Colne area committee chairman Coun Sharon Davies and Colne Town Council chairman Coun Dorothy Lord.

Don't miss this week's Colne Times for lots more on this story!
