West Craven turbine plan could get go ahead
RESIDENTS worried about proposals for a 10kw wind turbine to be built on a Bracewell farm will have their chance to speak at Pendle Council’s West Craven Committee meeting tomorrow evening.
The application for the turbine at Yarlside, which will stand at a total height of 19.8 metres, has been recommended for approval by planning officers.
Residents living at Horton Lodge, which is 200 metres from the proposed site of the turbine, said it would have a detrimental effect on their quality of life in their homes, and also on the safety of drivers on the nearby A59.
They expressed concerns about visual impact, noise and vibration, as well as an effect on local wildlife.
A prior application to build a turbine at a different site on the farm land was approved in May, though applicant Michael Ashby said this scheme would not go ahead.
Principal planning officer Kathryn Hughes said the recommendation for approval was based on various policies, including a national commitment to reduce carbon dioxide emission by 60% by 2050, that development in the open countryside is permitted though local planning policy for renewable energy and that individual or small groups of wind turbines can be permitted outside of designated areas - like green belts, biological heritage sites, where there is no serious environmental detriment.
She said: “The impact of the turbine on the amenity of the area can be effectively mitigated with appropriate conditions.”
Councillors will decide at the meeting at Salterforth Village Hall tomorrow, beginning at 7 p.m.

Are you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please register your objection to the Government by googling "petition 22958" and following the link. Please pass this message on to Councillors, members of your community and anyone else you know to persuade them to sign up too. If you are really concerned about wind turbines please write a letter promoting this petition to the Editors of your local newspapers.
