Your chance to represent Pendle in international youth event in France

YOUNG people from Pendle are being invited to attend an International Youth Event in the borough’s twin town of Creil in France. But the application closes this coming Monday.

Joanne Eccles, secretary of Pendle Twinning Association, said: “Are you 17 to 20 years old? Are you outgoing and friendly? Do you live in Pendle? We are looking for four young people to represent Pendle in the International Youth Event in Creil, from July 10th to 17th.

“Creil is organising the international youth event and inviting 53 young people and 11 leaders from the following countries to take part - Pendle in England, Marl in Germany, Chorzow in Poland, Bethlehem and Qadoura in Palestine, Dakhla in Morocco, Luurne in Belgium, Kusadasi in Turkey and Creil in France.

“There are four places for young people from Pendle. Chris Sergeant, a PE teacher from Pendle Vale College, will be leading the group.”

Joanne added: “You should be interested in learning about other cultures and will be expected to take part in debates and work in small workshops as well as larger groups discussing environmental and equality issues. There will also be some recreational activities and the chance to do some sightseeing in Paris. It would be an advantage if you can speak French but not essential.”

The stay includes accommodation and full board. Guests will only need to pay for their travel insurance and half the cost of a return flight to Paris. Pendle Twinning Association will pay the other half.

So, if you are aged between 17 and 20 and live in Pendle and would like to be considered, send a curriculum vitae with a covering letter saying why you would like to take part in the event and why you should be chosen to represent Pendle to: David Carter, Chairman, Pendle Twinning Association, Town Hall, Market Street, Nelson, Lancashire BB9 7LG or email Joanne Eccles at joanne.eccles@pendle.gov.uk

The deadline to send in application is Monday. Interviews for shortlisted candidates will take place the following week. For more information telephone Joanne on 661654.
