Caring Adam honoured in '˜young citizen' awards

Adam Broxton (12) was commended in the “The High Sheriff of Lancashire’s Young Citizen Award 2016” in recognition of his selfless attitude.

His proud mum Kim Jackson said: “Adam was very close to his grandma Shirley and did lots of chores for her even before she was ill. Shirley beat breast cancer almost five years ago but was unfortunately diagnosed with terminal lung and bone cancer last July.

“Adam cared for her throughout both of her treatments and then moved in to her house in Rosehill to help us care for her because she didn’t want to go in a hospice. He gave up his own home luxuries and time with friends.

“He was there from the end of July to November when she passed away. His dad Paul and I are very proud of him, he’s a lovely lad.”

Unity College pupil Adam, who enjoys playing rugby, was presented with his award in a ceremony at the Lancashire Police Headquarters in Hutton.

Amanda Parker, High Sheriff of Lancashire, said: “The Young Citizen of the Year Award promotes young people’s achievements, highlighting the valuable contribution they make to the communities in which they live.

“We were delighted with the number and variety of entrants for this year’s prize.”
