Charity nights to help save historic Empire Theatre

A small group of hard-working volunteers committed to saving one of the area's oldest theatre's has two fund-raising events coming up.

The Burnley Empire Theatre Trust was formed at the end of last year when the plight of Burnley’s last remaining Victorian theatre caught the attention of a small group of people who were inspired to do something about the building’s welfare.

The process of restoration is a long one, and begins with a viability study.

And for that to take place BETT is hoping to raise both much-needed funds and public awareness of what this building used to be and what it can be again - a beautiful and financial asset for the whole area.

Two performance events have been organised for the coming weeks.

The first is an Empire Acoustic Night tomorrow night at the Inn On The Warf in Burnley.

And that it followed by the Empire Showcase at The Muni, Colne, on July 15th.

There is no fixed price for The Empire Acoustic Night on Saturday but donations on the evening will be very much appreciated.

The evening starts at 7-30pm and will feature performances from Bad Cardigan, Robin Haldane, Grey Sings, Tristesse James and Fat G.

There will also be a raffle on the night as the group tries to raise the money it needs for the viability study.

The event at The Muni on July 15th will be a showcase of the types of events which could be staged at a revamped and relaunched Empire Theatre.

It will feature the comic wit and vocal skills of Richard Sanderson, performances from charming swing singers Josh Hindle and Ben Fontaine, beautiful contributions from Jade Brett and Cathryn Osborne, an extract from The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, staged at The Muni by Green Door Theatre Group earlier this year, plus talented young dancers Emre Giray and Brooke Green from Helen Green Dance – accompanied by Lily Fontaine.

The second part of the show will see the startling magic of Shaun McCree, followed by accomplished acoustic sets from the talented Ben and Liam, Jack Herbert, and Jake Dixon.
