Fire-fighters plan to strike

Two fires happened in Nelson on Tuesday while the Fire Brigade Union was holding one of its regular strikes.

But Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service still dealt with the incidents and no one suffered as a result of either situation.

The FBU is planning another strike today.

They are objecting to problems in the fire services including pension changes.

But it is likely that any issues will again be dealt with here in Pendle.

Regarding Tuesday’s incidents, a spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: “The majority of our fire engines remained operational for the duration of the strike and resilience crews successfully dealt with incidents.”

One incident which happened was a wheelie bin fire on Sherwood Close in Nelson.

The other was a fire involving a microwave on Beddington Street, Nelson, and a fire service spokesman said: “There were no injuries or rescues undertaken at this incident.”

Across the county, the only other fire during the strike was a rubbish fire in the open on a street in Whalley.

And the spokesman added: “We also took a handful of calls from across the county that were false alarms. A further strike is planned to take place on Friday, January 3rd, between 6-30am and 8-30am. Please take extra care.”
