Man arrested for assault in town

A man was hospitalised after he was attacked in Burnley town centre.

The assault happened around 5-45am on Sunday when an argument broke out on St James’s Street between two men.

The 41-year-old man was punched to the ground before being kicked in the face.

DC Hannah Tofalos, of Burnley Police, said: “There were quite a few people in the area at this time and we believe somebody may have seen something.

“If you saw the incident, or believe you know anything about it, we would urge you to get in touch.”

A 24-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.
