A family fun day held to raise funds for Help for Heroes and the RAF Benevolent Fund has been hailed as a great success – and could be repeated next year.

The Knockout Roadshow event was staged by Pendle Phoenix Rugby Union Club at its Hodge House playing fields headquarters in Nelson on Saturday and featured a wide variety of stalls and fun-packed games for all the family as well as a game between Phoenix and a team from RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.

The event drew a good crowd of entrants and spectators and although the final sum realised was not known as we went to press, Pendle Phoenix’s fund-raising co-ordinator Lindsey Moss said the club was pleased with the result.

“It was a fund-raiser for the two causes and to raise awareness of the club in the area as well as doing something for the community,” she said.

“The day went brilliantly and I think everybody enjoyed it.

“It is definitely something we would look to repeat doing next year.”
