New race in cancer fight

Following the decision not to stage the popular Race for Life in Towneley Park, this year, a new event is to be launched in its place.

Race for Life was a major fund-raiser for local branches of Cancer Research UK.

And now the Colne and West Craven branch of the charity’s fund-raising arm has joined forces with a new charity to launch the new event.

The Burnley and Pendle FUNDRUN is a 5K community event which is being held at Towneley Park in Burnley on Sunday, September 18th at 11am.

This event is being organised as a way to bring the Burnley and Pendle communities together to help beat cancer sooner.

And it will raise money for the Colne and West Craven Fund-raisers for Cancer Research UK and CARES for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The event is being organised by the two charities.

The Cone nand West Craven group raises money locally to fund ground-breaking cancer research and clinical trials held in the North Wes.

CARES is a new charity which is being formed to deliver rapid, early cancer assessment and support to the local community.

CARES is working with the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and will be funding a new Endoscopic screening and diagnostic Facility at Burnley General Hospital.

The run is a sponsored 5K and is a fun event where you can run, walk, jog, hop skip or jump!

The most important thing is not to get around, but that you attend and support these two fantastic local causes.

You can register for this event at www.5kfundrun.com

A Facebook page has been set up for the event atfacebook.com/burnleyand

The route will be fully marshalled and there will be entertainment and attractions on the day.

And unlike Race for Life this event is open to everyone, not just women.

People interested in volunteering as a marshal or being a stall holder on the day should contact Maggie Cannon, secretary of the Colne and West Craven Fundraisers, at [email protected]
