Police called after drunk abused paramedics

Burnley magistrates were told how Colston was subject to a suspended sentence imposed at Leeds Crown Court for blackmail in July last year.

The defendant, of Bracewell Close, Nelson, admitted being drunk and disorderly in Beaufort Street, Nelson, on April 12th. She was fined £40, with a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs by the justices, who said she could have delayed her cousin’s treatment

Mrs Alex Mann (prosecuting) said police were called at 7-30am. Ambulance staff were dealing with a female and the defendant was interfering.

Miss Catherine Fell (for Colston) said it had been the anniversary of her uncle’s death, her cousin had called her at midnight, she had gone round to talk and had carried on drinking. The cousin was upset and had self-harmed. The defendant called the ambulance.

The solicitor continued: “She accepts she is just trying to get into the ambulance to see her cousin, to make sure she is alright.”
