Representing the college in the Outstanding BTEC Child and Social Care Student of the Year category, Lydia was nominated for the award by her tutors for her outstanding hard work and dedication on her Advanced Health and Social Care course and as a volunteer.

The prestigious BTEC Awards are held in London each year to celebrate the achievements of the country’s most dedicated vocational students, apprentices, tutors and employers.

She was also awarded a prestigious Burnley College Sixth Form Centre “Outstanding Star” for her achievements in both her course work and her extra-curricular contributions and is now volunteering at Camp America for the summer.

Burnley College assistant Principal for Sixth Form and University Studies Alison Cameron-Brandwood said: “This is a wonderful achievement and the BTEC Awards judges commented on how this commendation is a great indication of Lydia’s truly outstanding work throughout her course.

“It is a great pleasure for me to see the excellent efforts our students make during their studies at Burnley College both within College and while taking part in valuable extra-curricular endeavours.

“ We encourage all of our students to cultivate a varied programme of study and Lydia’s achievements prove that volunteering and taking part in extra-curricular activities supported by her tutors really pushed her studies to the next level. We are very proud of her.”

Lydia said: “I’m so excited to have been recognised twice for the work I’ve achieved this year. The Child and Social Care vocational course has been amazing so far and I’ve learned so much thanks to my brilliant tutors who supported me with finding my extra-curricular and volunteering work.

“Both my commendation from the BTEC Awards 2016 and my Outstanding Star from Burnley College Sixth Form Centre have given me the confidence to aim even higher and I know they’ll help me to get even further in my chosen career.”
