Salvation Army shop opens

A new Salvation Army shop has been opened on St James's Street in Burnley's town centre.

The opening, which took place on Wednesday 6 July, commemorated the branch joining countless others across the country which help raise funds for vulnerable people across communities including Burnley.

The shop, with its new team of staff and volunteers, will be led by branch manager, Andrea Harrison, who welcomed members of the public to the opening, which offered a host of debut bargains to be snaffled up by eager customers.

Area manager, Ann Penny, said: “The team have done a brilliant job in getting the new shop ready and it’s looking fantastic! We’ve got a lovely location right near the main shopping centre, so we’re expecting it to be a popular shop.

“We’re on the look-out for volunteers in Burnley and I’d like to encourage anybody who’s interested to pop in and have a chat about what’s involved. We rely on the generosity of our volunteers – if you think you can spare any time at all, from a few hours to a few days a week, you will be helping to make a huge difference.”
