“To participate in such an event was a great experience but to go and win Gold at the World Championships was one of the greatest moments of my career.”

Shoaib, who trains at the Muscle Factory gym in Daneshouse, Burnley, underwent a gruelling schedule of preparation which included Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting.

He added: “Training for the tournament went great. I train all year round but coming up to the tournament was Ramadan so I therefore had to push myself and train harder in the months leading up to the world championships.”
