Three crashes happened in just 20 minutes along the M65 as wet weather chaos hit the motorway.
Road police were called to three separate incidents between J11 at Stoneyholme and J13 at Nelson which was affected by standing water this morning.
Several cars including an Audi and Toyota were in collision on the westbound carriageway near Brierfield at 10-25am.
One car was flipped over on its roof and a person was believed to be trapped inside. Paramedics were called to the scene.
One lane of the carriageway had to be shut off and a speed restriction was put in place.
A BMW estate and a wagon were involved in an accident in the same area on the opposite carriageway towards Colne around 10-25am. No injures were reported.
Earlier, another vehicle ploughed into the central reservation on the westbound carriageway near J11 at Stoneyholme. No injuries were reported.
