Lorry driver airlifted to hospital after crashing into wall

A lorry driver was airlifted to hospital with serious facial injuries after he crashed into a dry stone wall this morning.

The 26-year-old suffered serious facial injuries after the accident in Smithy Lane, Colne at around 6-30am.

He was trapped in the cab of the vehicle after the incident in the rural lane and paramedics and firefighters from Colne attended the scene with a team from Chorley with special hydraulic equipment required when heavy vehicles are involved in collisions.

In the end the equipment was not necessary and the usual equipment and techniques used were sufficient to release the man.

The casualty was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
