Pendle Leisure Trust has been awarded £24,821 of Sport England’s Lottery money to fund Fitness Magic.
Fitness Magic is a national pilot project in partnership with Slimming World and their Body Magic programme. Fitness Magic will develop a bespoke programme of physical activities to introduce non-participants into physical activity and to educate them on the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.
An initial programme of engaging activities has been developed to meet their needs and focus on changing the behaviour of inactive people through a soft, friendly approach, offering non-intimidating access to entry level, affordable physical activities which will ultimately lead to an increase in sustained participation.
A close working partnership with Slimming World will be developed in order to feedback quality research on barriers and motivations to physical activity and to continuously develop a diverse and captivating programme, utilising new technology and an Activator to embed within the members to deliver, co-ordinate and promote the project within the local Slimming World community.
The funding is part of a three-year, £2 million project called Make Your Move, which aims to increase opportunities to participate in sport at a local level in innovative and creative ways.
Phil Storey, Chief Executive of Pendle Leisure Trust, said: “The funding that we have received from Sport England via Sporta’s Make Your Move campaign is essential to secure sports’ participation for our local community. It will allow us to offer enhanced services to local people, further developing participation in sports in Pendle.”
