Keen savers at the Nelson-based Marsden Building Society have meant that Pendleside Hospice has benefitted from a fantastic donation of £13,584!

The money represents the amount raised in the last financial year from savers with a Pendleside Hospice Affinity account.

Savers are invited to open an Affinity account and as well as benefitting from an excellent rate of interest, the building society will donate 1% of average balances of all the savers’ accounts to the Reedley-based hospice.

The money raised will help the hospice provide care to local people suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. The cost of providing care increases year on year in response to demand for services. Current annual running costs exceed £3.2 million, of which more than £2.35 million has to be raised from fund-raising and donations.

Hospice fund-raising manager Mrs Kaye Bartle said: “Marsden Building Society have supported Pendleside Hospice since the charity began in 1988. The Affinity account is an excellent idea as it benefits savers as well as helping a local worthy cause.

“We are very grateful to everyone at Marsden for introducing the idea and to everyone who has chosen to support Pendleside by opening an Affinity account.”

Anyone interested in opening an Affinity account with the Marsden can contact any of the many local branches or the organisation’s head office in Russell Street, Nelson.
