The demolition of the former day nursery in Barkerhouse Road, Nelson, has been welcomed by Labour councillors.
Pendle councillor David Whalley said: “ This is brilliant news as the site has been a serious eyesore for many years.
“Local councillors and residents have been upset with the lack of progress over the last 12 months.
“I have worked closely with our planning department and the site owners to ensure we were able to demolish this site.”
And County Coun. Azhar Ali said: “I have worked hard to persuade Lancashire County Council to agree to remove some crazy conditions which meant that the owners were unable to demolish the building.
“I want to thank the owner for working very closely with Coun. Whalley and I to get to the point where last week the building was being demolished.
“The site does have planning permission for new housing and we will try and work with local residents to ensure the right scheme is built in the area.”
