The Netball Superleague Player of the Season title has been awarded to Yorkshire Jets vice-captain Natalie Haythornthwaite, from Barrowford.
Natalie, who plays at Goal Attack and Wing Attack, was named the standout player of the 2015 campaign following a vote ahead of last weekend’s Superleague Grand Final.
There are so many amazing players in every team in the competition and I am honoured to have been selected to be one of the top five by experts in the sport and then voted the winner by fansNatalie Haythornthwaite
The award was presented following the game at The Copper Box Arena on London’s Olympic Park.
Haythornthwaite said: “I’m over the moon to have been named the Netball Superleague Player of the Season. There are so many amazing players in every team in the competition and I am honoured to have been selected to be one of the top five by experts in the sport and then voted the winner by fans. Thank you to everyone who’s taken the time to vote for me, I’ve been humbled by the kind comments and support.”
Meanwhile, Jets captain and YEP columnist Lauren Potter announced her retirement from Superleague netball after Saturday’s narrow 55-49 defeat to their Roses rivals Manchester Thunder in the third/fourth place play-off.
Potter said: “Talk about ending on a high! Captaining the best ever Jets team to play-offs in front of a sell out crowd at the Copper Box Arena in the Olympic Park.”
It was Jets’ best performance since the Netball Superleague began – with 10 wins from 14 in the round robin stage of the competition – only being beaten by Surrey Storm and Manchester Thunder.
