A walk from Preston to Colne organised by district nurses has paved the way for the Motor Neurone Disease Association to receive thousands of pounds.

September’s 30-mile trek saw 47 district nurses, other healthcare professionals, friends, family, former and current Motor Neurone Disease patients, and one Colne GP undertake the considerable challenge which raised £7,350.48.

The walk was led by community staff nurse, Julie Sala, who holds the cause very close to her heart as she lost her husband to Motor Neurone Disease.

A cheque handover has now taken place and Julie said: “Last year we raised £5,000 and this year it is £7,350.48 so we are really pleased. We are thinking of doing it every year.

“I also do quite a bit of voluntary work for the charity. Half the money will go to research, half will go to provide equipment in the local area.”
