RAILWAY modellers at this weekend’s model exhibition in Brierfield may not look quite a smart as usual – as they have used their ironing board to put a railway layout on.

Organiser Mr David Carter said: “We would apologise in advance if not all of the operatives are dressed to their normal sartorially elegant standards. Unfortunately, the ironing board has been requisitioned for other purposes – a tough choice, but then one has to make sacrifices!”

Preparations are now in hand for Brierfield Model Railway Club’s annual exhibition tomorrow and Sunday. A major exhibit this year will be a prizewinning layout from the Pendle Forest Model Railway Society – Ecclesford Junction.

Alongside this will be a variety of other layouts and of particular interest will be displays featuring the products of the original Hornby company when it produced models in its Binns Road factory in Liverpool.

As usual, there will be trade support and a second-hand stall, and refreshments will be available throughout the weekend.

The show will be held on tomorrow and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, at St Luke’s Church Hall, in St James Street, Brierfield. Admission will be £3 for adults and £1.50 for children and concessions.
