The Mayor and Mayoress of Pendle are to tie the know in their borough this Friday.

The Mayor, Coun. Graham Roach, and his Mayoress, Joanna Sagar, will marry at St Bartholomew’s Church – Colne’s Parish Church – at 3pm on Friday.

The Mayor is a Liberal Democrat Pendle councillor for the Waterside Ward of Colne, and the Mayoress is a Colne Town Council member in the Horsfield Ward.

After the ceremony, they will hold a reception at Farringtons Restaurant at Nelson and Colne College.

Coun. Roach said: “We are almost at the end of our Mayoral year and have had a wonderful time meeting so many people from all walks of life, in all corners of Pendle.

“We had no idea when we started the year that we would take a day off from Mayoral duties to hold a ceremony for ourselves. But we decided we were going to get married and it seemed to be the right thing to do!

“We chose Farringtons at the college for our reception, as an act of support for the superb, high-quality work done there, by both the lecturers and the students. And we also knew we can rely on them to provide a top-class meal.”

And Joanna said: “We are really looking forward to our special day, with the support of lots of family and friends. At the weekend we will be straight back to work of our Mayoral duties!”

Mr Roach is also the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for the General Election this year in Pendle.
