LETTER: Yarn bomb attacks sadden me

How it saddened me to read such a scathing personal attack on an old age pensioner from the yarn bomb knitters in Clitheroe and the surrounding area.

No matter what is now knitted into the yarn bomb it will not be ethical to donate items of clothing to babies and children once they have been out in the elements after having been thrown over the Castle Railings. The clothing should be brand new and pristine clean.

I would also like to say how Marion has felt distressed after a conversation with someone from Whalley who has stated to her that Beryl Taylor should be warned off making comments as there are a lot of yarn bombers around. Well whoever you are, stick to the knitting but remember this; those who work at the Castle Museum are paid to bring people in, they have to make it pay and receive a salary for doing it, so where is the charity in this?

It would seem that Beryl Taylor has got completely the wrong end of every stick on the tree! Is it even worth trying to correct her when she is determined this is a bad idea? I am aware of the conversation Marion had and she has sadly misreported that. No one has told Marion "who has stated to her that Beryl Taylor should be warned off making comments as there are a lot of yarn bombers around." The person in question (an OAP) was VERY distressed that her trying to explain what the scheme was about was so grossly misrepresented. Why can't they just be pleased that people are trying to teach youths to knit and raise MONEY for charity? who mentioned baby and children's clothes?. And finally - what gives an elderly person the right to be abusive and nasty towards anyone under 65 and then expect to be treated with respect by those same people? All I can say is that I choose to support the event, Beryl Taylor can choose not too, and I wish she would just let people make up their own minds without being made to feel they are doing the worst possible thing imaginable!
