People from Pendle have been along to an Eid Celebration reception at 10 Downing Street, hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron.
The celebration is held every year by Mr Cameron for the Muslim community, as well as hosting other religions, too, during their festivals.
The invitations in Pendle included Pendle councillor Abdul Aziz, Mr Abdullah Zaid, Mr Saghir Ahmed, Mr Mahboob Ahmed, Dr Qazi Jehangir and Qazi Shakil Rehman. They all attended the event.
Saghir, chairman of the Burnley and Pendle Friends League, said: “We had a direct invitation from the Prime Minister. He hosted the Eid Celebration. We had a good time there. It was the first time we had the chance to go along to Number 10.”
Abdullah added: “There were about 130 people from all over the country. We were welcomed by the Prime Minister and by Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson. It was an amazing experience
“It was a chance to meet a lot of people from all over the UK.”
The Prime Minister made a speech at the event and revealed a piece in the Bible which linked with the Muslim celebration.
Coun. Aziz said: “I was proud to see the Prime Minister and enjoyed myself, really. I shook hands with him and he welcomed me.
“We had a great chat with Andrew Stephenson, too, and we thank him that he recommended us to be invited by the Prime Minister. It was great.”
The whole thing took place in Mr Cameron’s home at Number 10, and to get there, Coun. Aziz, Abdullah and Saghir managed to get to Preston Railway Station and catch a train down to Euston Station and go to meet the Prime Minister and their MP at a key location in London. They each had a great time.
