Fire crews battled for two-and-a-half hours to put out a blaze at a building in Farrer Street in the early hours of this morning (Monday).

The fire involved the electrical intake of the property and a ground floor room.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue said: "Four firefighters used breathing apparatus and two hose reels to put the fire out. Also in use was a fan to clear the smoke and some lighting equipment.

"Crews were in attendance around two-and-a-half hours and an investigation is now under way alongside the police."
