Police are appealing for witnesses after they said a man was deliberately run over by a car in Burnley.

The shocking incident happened around 8-30pm on Wednesday in Church Street when a man suffered a broken wrist after he was struck by a car.

Several officers were mobilised to the scene, outside Dixy Chicken, when an altercation took place resulting in a taxi office having a window smashed.

A police spokesman said: “At approximately 8-30pm on July 6th we were called to Church Street, Burnley, to reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.

“We attended and found the pedestrian had sustained minor injuries. It appeared a further altercation had also taken place outside a taxi office, where a window had been damaged.

“Enquiries are on-going. No arrests have been made at this time.”

An eyewitness told the Burnley Express he had seen a group of men stood around a man laying on the ground.

He said: “There were lots of police cars and loads of people gathering in the street.

“There seemed to be a real commotion going on.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting log number 1420 of July 6th.
