A partnership between Ribblesdale High School and Sanderson Dance and fitness Centre, in Nelson, really paid off when more than 50 pupils from school took part in a national level cheerleading competition at Blackpool Tower.

Pupils from all year groups in school and also local primary schools in Clitheroe are part of a large squad forming three separate teams. All pupils take part in a solo cheer dance and have to make it through up to four rounds before being selected for semi-finals and finals. Later in the day the event culminates in team dances for each age category.

Year 7 pupils took part in their first competition at Blackpool Tower and Olivia O’Neill was very unlucky not to reach her final. Kyra Tillotson and Ella Winterbottom also made it to the semi final stage in their age category.

The Year 7 team, “CS Tigers”, performed their first team dance in front of an audience of more than 1,000 dancers and were fantastic!

The Year 8 squad, “CS Panthers”, did exceptionally well in their team dance, being placed fourth overall. Later in the day, pupils in Years 8 to 11 performed in their solo categories and Leah Ormerod in Year 10 was extremely unlucky to be knocked out in the semi-final. Emily Marshall in Year 8 and Fiona Jackson in Year 11 also made it to the semi-final stage.

Nina Telford in Year 9 and Emily Billington in Year 11 went on to reach their finals and were fourth and second respectively.

The Year 8 to 11 RHS team achieved a fantastic and coveted third place in their team event, which is exceptional considering they were the only team at the event which was not solely a dance school.

Miss Robinson and Mrs Hartley are extremely proud of all the girls who took part and are now working towards their next competition in May at Leigh Sports Village. Miss Robinson also thanked all the fantastic parents who went along to support their children at the event. More than 100 competitors and parents were present on the day.
