Snow flurries began sweeping through East Lancashire this afternoon.
Wintry showers hit parts of Burnley, Pendle and the Ribble Valley for the first time in a wet and windy 2014.
The snow came during rush hour as motorists made their way home from work.
Snow fell earlier today across the Pennines but further flurries have fallen across lower ground across the region.
A yellow weather warning for snow had been issued by the Met Office for large parts of Lancashire and the North-West as huge areas of southern England continued to be hit by wet weather and floods.
Freezing temperatures could set in overnight and more snow showers are predicted by forecasters.
A warning for ice and widespread frost has also been issued.
