Organisers of a teddy bear’s picnic were sure of a big surprise when around 50 residents came to support their Colne event.

Held at St Michael and All Angels Church, in Skipton Road, the children’s feast was hosted by Sandra Cross and her daughter Stacey Thurston over the weekend.

It was put on as part of a church challenge, in which parishioners are being given £10 each to come up with a fund-raising plan. So far there has been a diverse range of ideas, and Sandra and Stacey decided to throw their funds together to do something for the children. From just £20, the duo managed to raise nearly £300.

Grandma to Sunday School member Lucy (3) Sandra, of Alkincoats Road, said: “It was really good and really well attended.

“We bought Easter eggs and had a chocolate tombola, and we had things donated for a raffle.

“The church is going to announce who has raised the most on Easter Sunday.”
