An overturned car closed a Barnoldswick road for more than three hours on Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters had to cut the roof off a silver and blue Smart Car to get the passenger out after the vehicle turned on to its side in Manchester Road at approximately 2-10pm.

A woman passenger, who had a slight head injury, was taken to Airedale Hospital as a precaution. The driver was unhurt and it is thought the car skidded and slid up on to an embankment turning it over.

The car overturned between Gillians Lane and Park Avenue and the road was closed by police to allow time for the clear up of a fuel and oil spillage. Manchester Road was reopened at 5-30pm.

In a separate incident, a passenger of a Volkswagen Golf was also taken to Airedale Hospital as a precaution when the car slid into a wall in Salterforth Road, Earby.

The accident occurred at approximately 1-55pm. Two other occupants of the car were unhurt.
