I was fortunate to attend the official opening of Burnley’s University Technical College the other week.
But it was not the presence of the Duke of York that I took away as a lasting memory, but a conversation I had with two parent governors.
When the idea of a dedicated tech college was mooted, it had its critics, but listening to the two proud mums has certainly convinced me the UTC has a key role to play in developing our young people.
The mums described how the college had literally changed their sons’ lives and given them hope of a well-paid career. That alone was worth going to hear.
