A memorial fund set up after the death of a West Craven war hero has helped kit out a school football team.
The L/Cpl Jordan Bancroft Memorial Fund has donated a new Claret strip to Barnoldswick CE Primary School’s Year 4 football team.
The charitable fund was set up after L/Cpl Bancroft’s death while serving with the Army in Afghanistan in 2010.
Money has been donated to a variety of good causes ranging from injured serviceman to Barnoldswick tot Oliver Rushton for his life-changing operation.
The school football team are delighted with their new kit and were able to wear their colours with pride at a summer tournament involving teams from Coates Lane Primary School and St Joseph’s Primary School.
L/Cpl Bancroft’s dad, Tony, said: “The kit is like a thank you back to the community.
“You never know, maybe one of these little stars might be a big star in the future.”
His mum, Sheila, said: “Jordan wanted to work with children. He was always an outdoor person and he was a football fan, so he would be very proud.
“I wanted to thank everybody for their support and especially Dawn Bickerdyke, who has been the main fund-raiser.”
L/Cpl Bancroft’s nephew, Dillon, and niece, Emily, are both pupils at the Barnoldswick Primary School.
